More students crossed a high school stage last spring to receive a Dogwood Diploma than ever before in School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake).

The Kootenay River Secondary School kitchen got a makeover this year! The kitchen renovation, completed in January 2025, includes all new cabinetry and countertops, a prep island, new plumbing fixtures and a sanitizing dishwasher, as well as a new fume hood and updates to the serving area.

There are lots of activities and events happening this month at KRSS, including senior drama performances to students and sports events.

Clubs are thriving, with events such as the GSA Club’s movie evening, and the broad range of clubs for students to choose from, such as Crafts, Weightlifting, Art, Dungeons and Dragons, GSA, and more.

KRSS has been busy with many different things this month: preparing for the upcoming drama performance of “Merry Grinchmas” on Dec 1st-3rd; participating in many clubs and activities such as art, fitness, and Dungeons and Dragons; excelling in sports and qualifying for the provincials in cross country and volleyball; and representing student voice and planning student events via Student Council

KRSS has begun our post-secondary school information fairs. Alberta post-secondary schools set up information tables at KRSS on September 19th, and this will be followed by a BC post-secondary school fair the week of September 25th.

Thanks to our academic counsellor Mike Fischer for his work organizing this, and please watch for more information as the school year progresses!

Principal Dawn Snell will transfer from Salmo Elementary to South Nelson Elementary.
