  As we head into November and look back on the past month, a theme has emerged: children and educators across schools are embracing the joy of physical movement and its power to connect us to our own selves, to one another, and to the land around us.
In this report, physical movement is tied to all five of the district’s strategic priorities:
- Lifelong learning happened when students engaged their physical intelligence through cross-country running at Brent Kennedy Elementary;
- Learners connected with one another and their communities when they met up to run on trails, through parks and across school grounds at Redfish Elementary and competed in a volleyball tournament between L.V. Rogers Secondary and Okanagan schools.
- A caring and inclusive learning culture was reflected in a therapeutic riding program at Canyon-Lister Elementary;
- Students developed Indigenous cultural knowledge and deeper identities by walking and learning on the land that surrounds W.E. Graham School;
- Elementary students across the district practiced courage, perseverance, and doing their best at local running meets. These characteristics will serve children throughout their K-12 journey and into their post-secondary education and careers.
May each of you have a chance to embrace movement this fall and enjoy the Kootenays, where I am so grateful to live, work and learn.
Warmly,
Trish
